Are You Living, or just alive

I want to tell you a little story about my life.  I did not grow up rich actually we were poor but we didn’t know it and my parents would never tell me I was.   They taught me that you have to work for things you want, and that sometimes you have to take a chance on someone.  They taught me that there is a God and that he will always be bigger than me.  They taught me that He opens doors that no man can open and that He closes doors that no man can close.  They taught me that I must have a little faith in all that I do and that in the end it will work out for the good.

I graduated high school, after that I joined the United States Air Force, Now I’m working in the IT field.  I have been through the rough times, I have been through the good times, and I have five children and have taught them basically the same.  I say all that just to say this,  Life will deal you a hand of cards, You can either play them or sit out, But I’m never going to be able to blame my failure or success on the cards that I have been dealt.

As long as you have a breath of air in your lungs there is a chance for you to win.  But it is hard to win from the side lines; you have to get in the game.  Now I was talking to this group of people and one man said but I don’t really know how it is, not to be able to make ends meet, so he can’t afford to take any risk.  So I asked him why did he come to my meeting, and how many risks did he take getting there, the crowd grew quiet, and I said just let me ask you one question.  You say the ends do not meet, right?  So if you took a risk will the ends meet or will they still not meet.  I told him if you are five dollars short, if you are ten dollars short, if you are a hundred dollars short, the end results are that you are still short.

Now don’t get me wrong, the last thing I wanted to do is embarrass anyone, but I had to make this man see that in order to change the situation he has to make a little change.  If you keep doing something the same way and keep expecting different results, that is a sign of being crazy.  If something is not working the way you are doing it then change the way you do it.

Not the program that I was trying to get people involved with cost five dollars to join; I should not have to work too hard to get people to join a five dollar program.  Skip coffee one morning, hits your change jar, borrow five dollars, and skip a lunch.  There are not very many opportunities where five dollars can change your life.  If it does not work, well it’s just five dollars but if it does work, well then you are a genesis.

Now did it work? Yes it did.  The man still thanks me for allowing him to see what was right in front of his eyes.  He told me that he had life but he had stop living.  Just because things are bad do not mean that you have to stop living.  That is what my parents taught me?
